A change of direction
After the deafening silence that has lasted for decades, and after the preconceived and ideological hostility that has characterized the work of Ispra and the actions of many politicians and high bureaucrats in the various halls of power, we are finally witnessing a slight but significant change of direction. Not only Ispra seems to have become more pragmatic and more scientific – it's about time! – but even the national and European governments are taking the necessary distance from an absolutely short-sighted and distorted vision of the complex environmental problems that range from the frightening threat of PSA to the absolute unsustainability of some species, especially alien ones and problematic for the rural economy, public safety and biodiversity.
No fuss
After the bitter disappointments of last summer - which however we were the only ones to justify and not over-dramatise - it is now our duty to take note of what the government and some politicians have done and continue to do, often without too much fanfare, in favour of a new vision of hunting and the fundamental role played by modern hunters.
Lollobrigida and Pichetto Fratin
It is therefore mandatory to give Caesar what is Caesar's, thanking not only the Hon. Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, and Prof. Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, head of the Department of the Environment and Energy Security, but also many other politicians, including the Hon. Francesco Bruzzone, for their courageous and tenacious work in defense not only of an increasingly diseased environment but also of hunters who belong to a category of "A" series citizens and as such not only must not be criminalized but must be respected as is the case in the vast majority of civilized countries.
