They were stuck in the snow, in thewildlife area of Forni di Sopra, almost unable to move, given the abundance of the mantle that covered the Friulian mountains: some splendid adult specimens of deer, including a male of about four years old, were reached and recovered with an extremely complex operation, which required the experts involved in the rescue a whole day of work, which ended on the evening of 5 January with the arrival of animals to the Cornino Lake Regional Nature Reserve.
They will remain there until the environmental conditions become suitable for their reintroduction in the wildlife area of Forni. The intervention is the result of the synergy between the Pavees Cooperative, which manages both the Forni di Sopra wildlife area and the Cornino Reserve, and the two municipalities involved, in the persons of the mayor of Forni di Sopra, Mark Lenna, and Forgaria in Friuli, Marco Chiapolino, who has made available the spaces of the Cornino Reserve for the reception of deer. "The wildlife area of Forni - explains the president of Coop Pavees, Luca Sure - is still paying for the consequences of the ruinous Vaia storm, and now the work in progress to deal with emergencies such as the one that has just occurred has been blocked by the heavy snowfalls.
An extraordinary action plan was therefore necessary, which would not have been possible without the close and fruitful collaboration established between the mayors of the two municipalities, whom I thank for the strong commitment. The support of our veterinarian, Dr. Stefano Pesaro, is also decisive. The operations were extremely delicate: the rescue team reached on skis the area where the deer were "stranded", which were reached, sedated and finally loaded on sleds provided by the mountain rescue.
In this way we managed, albeit with difficulty, to transport them to the state road, where the specimens were hoisted onto trucks used for transporting animals ”. The last step consisted in the accommodation in the Reserve, in the spaces identified for special guests. Overall, 14 hours of work were needed: the intervention, entirely filmed by the rescue team, began at 7 am and ended at 21 pm. mayor of Forgaria Chiapolino, who expresses great satisfaction with the outcome of a difficult rescue but, in fact, which ended in the best way (IlFriuli.it).
