The regional section
A falconry gathering organised by the Cormòns Hunting Reserve (GO) took placeUNFC (National Union of Falconers and Hunters), FVG Section. The gathering called “A day among falcons and dogs in the countryside”, also thanks to a beautiful day from a meteorological point of view, saw the participation of numerous falconers, some even coming from outside the region, and an attentive audience composed of a large school group composed of students enrolled at the Catholic Institute of Home Education Maria Mater Sapientiae, located in the Municipality of San Dorligo della Valle (TS).
Final act
The gathering was the final act of an educational path aimed at the children, first with an initial lesson in the classroom where they talked about the biology and importance of winged predators in the food chain and then with an outdoor lesson. During the gathering they were able to study and analyze the characteristics, habits and curiosities of these splendid birds from a scientific point of view through participatory, engaging and direct observation of the hunting action. Numerous were the questions posed to the falconers by those present to learn more about falconry, which is an ancient art, a mix of discipline, passion and respect for nature and which is manifested in the training and care of birds of prey.
Cultural Valor
Falconry is a living Human Heritage and since 2016 it has been included in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The recognition by UNESCO confirms the cultural value of this ancient discipline that has reached the present day and it represents one of the few links still existing with ancient local traditions and with the natural environment. The gathering ended with the emotional ceremony of "thanksgiving to the game" which was followed by words of gratitude to the Director of the Cormòns Hunting Reserve Patrizio Cucurnia for having granted the availability of the land for the event and towards all those who with their intervention made it possible for the gathering to take place (source: FIDC).
