Experimental extension
In September 2022, in order to combat the presence and settlement of wild boar in the area more efficiently, the Provincial government had planned to extend on an experimental basis until midnight the time for ordinary control activities, normally carried out up to two hours after sunset, to increase the sampling possibilities by taking advantage of the twilight and nocturnal habits of the species. The data from the experiment, which will end on 24.00 December, confirm the effectiveness of the measure adopted: from a check carried out by the Wildlife Service on the killings carried out from 31 October 1 to 2022 November 30 in ordinary control mode for which it is known the time of killing (2023% of the total), almost 67% occurred between two hours after sunset and midnight.
The effective date
Hence the decision of the Provincial Council to definitively confirm, starting from 1 January 2024, the timetable introduced on an experimental basis in 2022, deeming this measure effective and efficient in containing the wild boar populations distributed across the provincial territory.
The enabled controllers
The resolution adopted leaves the zoning of the territory unchanged, which divides Trentino into Area A, where the presence of the wild boar is consolidated and containment must be pursued continuously by authorized controllers, and into Area B, where the species is absent and , at the first sighting, its entry must be prevented quickly and with every means by the supervisory staff of the Trentino Forestry Corps and the hunting management body (source: Province of Trento).
