Insufficient data on migration routes
The ruling of the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) has arrived, which accepted the appeal presented by LAC (Lega Abolizione Caccia), ordering the immediate closure with a ban on any form of hunting in the 475 crossings identified in Lombardy in the report of last October 2024 by the commissioner ad acta, the director of Ispra Piero Genovesi. The news for the hunting world is nothing short of devastating and the only immediate action is the appeal to the Council of State by the Region. It is scandalous that we have arrived at this result, despite the commissioner appointed by the Tar having informed that Ispra does not have sufficient data on migratory routes to be able to identify the crossings.
African Swine Fever Emergency
The TAR's decision comes at a particularly delicate time for Lombardy, which is grappling with the African Swine Fever (ASF) emergency. In this context, it seems paradoxical and damaging to ban hunting in tens of thousands of hectares, an action that could further compromise disease containment strategies.
A grave injustice
Federcaccia and the Lombard hunting world ask for urgent action by the Government to avert a wildlife emergency and to re-establish what is perceived as a serious injustice towards all hunters, since all forms of hunting are involved. We recall that approximately 200 of the crossings affected by the TAR provision are already located within areas where hunting is prohibited. There is great concern for the future of traditional forms of hunting in the region, which risk being seriously compromised by this drastic decision of the TAR (source: FIDC Lombardia).
