Coldiretti's exultation
Coldiretti Marche has achieved a major victory following its latest meeting with the Region. Farmers affected by wild boars will finally receive compensation, which is "on the way." Already in the next budget adjustment, currently under discussion, the Marche Region plans to allocate a full €500 to immediately offset the steep bill with agricultural businesses. Coldiretti Marche itself announced the news , after months of discussions and vigilance regarding this long-standing issue. Alberto Frau, director of Coldiretti Marche, rejoices: "All farmers who applied up to 2024 and who have yet to receive a response will finally be compensated." "While we await the single statute of the ATCs and the new regulation that will completely change the way these institutions operate, in the Marche region we will be compensating for all the damages suffered by our poor agricultural entrepreneurs, decimated by this scourge."
Data from the Asaps Observatory
Coldiretti then points out that in the Marche region official sources speak of around 40 thousand ungulates. A number considered underestimated compared to the actual number. However, there is certainly damage. In this regard, it should be noted that the region spends around 2 million euros a year for damage to agriculture, especially corn, sunflowers and cereals, and to compensate for damage from road accidents that have so far seen 11 with serious or very serious injuries in 2023 alone according to the Asaps Observatory. Without forgetting the risk of African swine fever, a disease harmless to humans but lethal to pigs, which risks bringing not only pig farms to their knees, whose animals should be slaughtered in the event of contagion, but entire sectors of our economy given that prophylaxis in these cases involves the closure of the affected areas to avoid potential direct or indirect interactions with sick animals.
More than 40 thousand ungulates
All this also means a ban on hunting, fishing, mushroom or truffle picking, but also mountain bike or trekking excursions. All reasons that had pushed farmers, last July, to take to the streets with tractors, whistles and a lot of anger to protest under the buildings of the Marche Region and ask for immediate interventions. "As always, we prefer concreteness to chatter," concluded Frau. Coldiretti Marche has been fighting for this cause for some time. There are over 40.000 ungulates in our region and, in 2023 alone, they caused dozens of road accidents with 11 serious injuries.
