Reproductive success
Teamwork and the commitment of the ACMA delegate of Pesaro-Urbino, Dr. Roberto Donnini made it possible to monitor the nesting of a pair of turtle doves and to evaluate the growth times of the two chicks and to verify the fledging of both, fortunately without predation or atmospheric events that could have compromised the reproductive success of this couple.
A growing population
All observations were carried out days later and did not cause disturbance as verified by the fledging of both chicks. The Marche Region is among the most interesting for the nesting of the species with an increasing regional population and a strong hunting tradition for the species.
Adaptive sampling
Knowledge of the annual productivity of young people is a fundamental parameter for estimating the share of animals that can be harvested as part of the European adaptive harvesting project. This important example demonstrates that it is possible to correctly study this species in the delicate reproductive phase and obtain the scientific data necessary for the conservation of sustainable hunting of wild doves (source: FIDC).
