For just over two weeks, the small Calabrian town of Galatro has his own circle of hunters. The town in the province of Reggio Calabria, known for its religious structures and for being the birthplace of the Greek teacher of Petrarch and Boccaccio, has waited with some trepidation the date of last February 27th, when there was the official inauguration of the local hunting section. The meeting was enhanced by the presence of the mayor of Galatro, Carmelo Panetta, the deputy mayor Pino Sorbara, as well as many hunters and local authorities. Of course, Federcaccia, represented by the regional president, could not be missing Gennaro Giuffre and from the provincial one Mimmo Iero.
Furthermore, the number one of the Territorial Hunting Area RC1 Reggio Calabria was invited, Tino Lagana. Why a new club in this area of Calabria? The first president of the club, carmel romeo, did the honors of the house with the usual thanks. The structure was called "Il Tordo" and the inauguration was also used to remember Edward Virdia, a native of these parts and president of the Italian Federation of Hunting for more than four decades, who has disappeared in recent months.
The meeting also served for discuss the future of hunting and the most important issues affecting the southern region and the whole country. As explained by the mayor of Galatro, hunting is and must remain a moment of aggregation, the new club will be a pleasant and welcoming meeting place in which to talk and discuss many topics, including hunting itself, but also fishing, mycology and so on. The provincial president Iero also recalled the current emergencies in the hunting field, ensuring his presence for future debates. Just last February the regional sector associations met to discuss the main issues.
In particular, he has long been talking about an overall reform of the hunting regulations in Calabria, a law that will have to summarize the contributions of all. Another rather "thorny" argument is that of the absence of a disciplinary regulation regarding wild boar hunting and hunting guards, without forgetting the recent early closure of the hunting. The Region has undertaken to start a compulsory training course to create an organization of volunteers. These are issues that are always topical and that the new Galatese circle will contribute to solving in the best possible way, especially as regards the damage to the agricultural sector by wild animals (wild boars in the first place).
