It was published on the Official Journal of the European Union the community regulation that establishes the definitive registration of Pitina among the products a protected geographical indication (PGI). The regulation is dated 19 June and, having acknowledged that following the publication of the specification (which took place on 23 January last) there was no declaration of opposition, gave the green light to the registration and the consequent protection of the Pitina Igp name in all member states.
“I am pleased and proud - commented the Councilor for Agri-Food Resources of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Stefano Zannier - to be able to welcome Pitina to the small group of DOP and IGP products of our region. They are even more so if I think that it is absolutely the first product of the Destra Tagliamento. In this regard, I thank those who took the initiative at the time, which now finds a worthy conclusion ”. It is a unique and unrepeatable cured meat from the Pordenone area, a gastronomic excellence that is prepared with sheep and goat or hoofed game meat.
Today a part of pork is also used to dampen the strong and wild flavor of chamois, roe deer, goat or sheep. Conservation is guaranteed by a specific smoking process, in addition to a protective layer based on corn flour. Pitina can be produced exclusively in the municipalities of Andreis, Barcis, Cavasso Nuovo, Cimolais, Claut, Erto Casso, Frisanco, Maniago, Meduno, Montereale Valcellina, Tramonti di Sopra and Tramonti di Sotto.
