La hare hunting in Piacenza pushed the local section of theANUUMigrators to publish an official statement. As recalled by the association, on 4 August a letter was sent to eleven Territorial Areas of Hunting of the provincial territory to ask to adopt the irremovable and numbered bands individually. These zip ties must be applied to culled hares to monitor the harvest of the next hunting season.
The ANUU is also convinced that the monitoring plans already foreseen are sufficient, namely the periodic reporting of the total withdrawal quota and the monitoring of the trend of hare populations. The purchase of the clamps requires a cost of approx 28mila euros and the association has wondered who will pay this sum, whether the hunters through the ATCs or the Emilia Romagna Region.
Furthermore, it is not clear whether they will be adopted throughout the remaining regional territory. As we read in this note, the money would be more useful for environmental restoration or to finance projects for the protection of protected species. In addition, there is the belief that to better manage the hare it is necessary empower hunters and not create other complications. The final request of the ANUU is that the hunting activity in Piacenza take place in full compliance with the regional calendar.
