Hunting in Sardinia: Start of the pilot project for the repopulation of the Sardinian hare "Lepus capensis" approved by the Sardinia Region.
Cagliari, 30 March - The Department of the Environment of the Province of Cagliari, through the Wildlife Protection, Hunting and Agriculture office, has prepared a pilot project for the repopulation of the Sardinian hare "Lepus capensis", as part of the programming envisaged by the Regional Law 23 / 98 on the protection of wildlife.
The project, approved by the Sardinia Region, will be carried out with both hares bred in captivity and with specimens captured in the wild with the method of the hunt, in order to evaluate the survival and resistance of the species in the two cases.
In order to achieve the objectives of the project, the staff in charge of its execution, with the coordination of the provincial office, will start the capture of the hares on March 31st.
The activity was organized in the Restocking and Capture Area called “Feraxi-Tuerra”, in the Municipality of Muravera.
Ear tags will be applied to the captured specimens and then transferred to the Monte Cannas buffer zone. The appointment is for tomorrow 31 March, at 8, at the Hotel Helisabet, in San Priamo.
