Final act
The provincial section of Brindisi Federcaccia, in collaboration with the Ostuni dog group, the Sports Commission of the National Tracking Dogs Federcaccia and the Italian Prosegugio Society, organized the final phase of the Magna Grecia Trophy, “Test for breeds to be followed on hare pairs and packs with assignment of Cac”. The preliminary phases of the Magna Grecia trophy took place between Calabria and Puglia, organized by the respective provincial sections Federcaccia in the month of February, more precisely in Crotone on 3 and 4 February and in Brindisi on 17 and 18 February.
Excellent hounds
The Brindisi test also represented the 3rd edition of the Pino del Prete memorial, and as in the previous one it attracted numerous competitors, who with their hounds of excellent morphological level gave rise to two days of zootechnical checks whose main aim, in addition to competitive, is above all to establish the health and the morphological and selection level of the breeds present at the test, as well as having important indications from the expert ENCI judges on any possible improvements to be made with future matings. The task fell to the Expert ENCI Judges who took turns between the preliminary and final phases of the event: Antonio De Falco, Paolo Cerra, Gennaro Trapuzzano, Marcello Canonaco, Giuseppe Macrì in the preliminary phases, and the Judges Armando Torri and Antonio Raffaele in the final phase of the Trophy.
The competition grounds
The breeds present were mostly Italian hounds, Ariégeois and Apennine hounds. The loose fields were lands mainly cultivated with artichokes, cereals, vineyards and olive groves, where the good presence of the hare meant that everyone encountered the useful past. The organization, impeccable with the companions and the entire group chaired by Luigi Scalera, ensured that the two days passed without problems and at the end of the test phases the convivial moments and hospitality reserved for the participants by the entire organizing group he made us feel the warmth and hospitality of the southern people. There was a large presence of hounds from Calabria, dog lovers with a great desire to show what they have in their kennels and their dressage skills at the various zootechnical checks.
Important scores
Saturday and Sunday were characterized by a humid temperature in the early morning which subsequently gradually improved. Many discoveries and many qualifications with even important scores, which immediately gave the idea of which teams and pairs could win the Trophy. Of note is the presence of very young dog lovers who assisted in leading their auxiliaries together with parents and grandparents, such as Syria Rizzo, Ercole Campise, Gianluca Pace, Matteo Carnevale and Giuseppe Scerbo, who despite their young age already have clear ideas on how they should lead and work the hounds. A proper thank you goes to all the guides, who with their ability and knowledge of the area made everything much easier (source: FIDC).
