The problems of enlargement
The hunting and sport fishing associations (Federcaccia, Arcicaccia, Liberacaccia, Enalcaccia, AnuuMigratoristi, Fipsas, Arcipesca and Liberapesca) of the Province of Grosseto wish to inform all citizens «of the existence of a project, until now kept rather hidden, for the expansion of the Maremma regional park from the current borders to all the Ombrone floodplains". «The expansion – explain the associations -, if it can be called that, given that we are talking about over 1.500 hectares of land, provides that starting from Steccaia and up to the town of Rispescia all the Ombrone floodplain areas will become a park . This project, which has never been presented publicly and about which very little is known, represents in our opinion a big risk for all those people who today freely use those areas; not only us hunters, but also fishermen, cyclists, trekkers, and anyone who wishes to move freely in the countryside on the outskirts of Grosseto without having to pay the entrance fee."
Farmers' protests
«We Maremma people and free men – they continue – are tired of feeling like prisoners in our land. Not to mention the certain problems that such a project would entail. Precisely in these days we are witnessing farmers' protests throughout Europe against the strict rules of the European Community and against a system of constraints and costs that have become unsustainable. And what will our farmers say? What about wild animals? Without a containment zone between the park and the urban areas, we run the risk, as happened in other cities (Rome), of finding wild boars and wolves under our homes. And the dog owners who use these lands to let their animals run freely, where will they take them"?
A project to block
«In short, we hunters from Grosseto are really tired of being prisoners in our own home, given that we care about the environment in which we live and in which we exercise our passion, certainly more than many armchair environmentalists who would like to close the world inside a park and keeping us all prisoners at home watching documentaries. We therefore invite all citizens and all associations (agricultural, sporting, fishing and leisure) that have at heart the defense of the rights of the Grosseto people to take action to ensure that this project is stopped in time and does not pass over our heads without is minimally questioned."
