When they have returned from the beat of hunting on the Po, in the area of Cornale and Bastida (PV), two hunters, father and son, had the nasty surprise to discover that their two cars had been semi-destroyed by a fire: a fire almost certainly of arson.
The rest is a mystery: you have to understand who started the fire, and why. Maybe it was a vendetta between hunters: in other areas of the Oltrepo, especially the hilly ones, scars on the bodywork or cut tires are commonplace. It is possible that the fire was started by someone who does not like those who practice the art of hunting.
Nor is it excluded that someone who does not digest territorial encroachments has acted, given that the two hunters targeted come from Lower Piedmont. The firefighters of Voghera and the carabinieri of Casei Gerola, competent on the municipal territory of Cornale and Bastida, intervened on the spot.
The episode took place the other morning, just before 9, on the bank of the Po: to be precise in an open space that can be reached by a dirt road that branches off from via Pogliani e Barbieri, the name it takes the Sp 206 Voghera-Novara in the municipality of Cornale. Father and son, who live in Alzano Scrivia, arrive in Cornale before dawn and go to the place they have chosen to hunt, along the Po. It is not the first time.
Father and son are regulars of the river, so much so that they have a boat aground on the shore. Their specialty, in fact, is hunting from the river. “The law allows it - explains the Forestry - In the foreseen periods you can shoot game on the ground and in flight directly from a boat on the river. Always with prior authorization, it is also possible to build staging huts on the banks or even on the water, such as those built in the middle of the reeds ".
When they return from the beat, just before 9, father and son discover that their cars, a Fiat Panda and a Nissan, have been set on fire. The cars were not parked nearby, so it is impossible for one to have caught fire due to accidental causes such as a short circuit, then setting the other on fire.
The two Piedmontese hunters immediately called 112, which sent a team of firefighters from Voghera and a police patrol to the place. The firefighters put out the flames, but the damage reported by the two cars is now considerable. After being heard by the carabinieri, the two hunters could not help but call a workshop in their village to have what was left of their two cars recovered with the tow truck. In the next few days they will return to Casei to file a complaint against unknown persons.
In the meantime, no hypothesis is excluded. Friction between hunters from other locations and resident farmers (who see their funds invaded and trampled on by hunting enthusiasts) is a common phenomenon throughout Italy. But even more common are the spite and spite between hunters who compete by all means for the best places to hunt.
