Hunting in Savona: Ungulates, 8249 wild boars killed and damage to agriculture halved.
The data relating to the damage caused by ungulates and to the animals killed in the Province of Savona at the Sala Giunta of the Province of Savona were disclosed by the hunting councilor Livio Bracco and the provincial police councilor Luca Villani.
“We decided to hold this conference not only to give a series of numbers, but to explain in detail our work in these years of establishment in this sector. - Bracco explained - A gradual work to create a series of conditions useful for the territory and the farmers. 8249 heads of boars that have created considerable damage to our territory, there were in 2010, 150 thousand euros of damage to the cultivated area but respectively in 2007 the damages were well 306.550 thousand €, in 2008 330 thousand € while in 2009 219 thousand €.
We have therefore managed to significantly reduce the damage in relation to the great prevention carried out in the three territorial hunting areas (Albenga-Savona-Valbormida) with electric shepherds, cages, hunting trips and thanks to the work done by the Provincial Police and to the greater sharing of being connected to the territory, to the environment by hunters.
From the data provided by the competent offices it is clear that the complaints relating to the damage suffered have significantly decreased over the last three years: in fact, it has gone from 725 in 2009, to 501 in 2009 to reach 371 as of 30 September 2010. We are since July 2009 to reduce the payment times for damages caused by ungulates and the like and this seems to us an excellent result ”.
The councilor for the Provincial Police Luca Villani continued “We have worked a lot on control and prevention and we have seen greater awareness in hunters for respecting the rules.
We intervened as Provincial Police in cases of reporting damage in the killing or removal of wild boars e roes in the periods without hunting to limit the damage to the farmers and there was a climate of great collaboration with the hunters. In 2010 we made 37 administrative fines and 10 penalties, some related to poaching and we were very present in the area.
In 2010 it is important to note that the interventions carried out on the territory by us as Provincial Police have led to the capture of a total of 99 heads. ".
