Hunting: Abruzzo, the commissioner Febbo, responds to the accusations of the councilor Acerbo and confirms, "there will be no hunt for roe deer".
"Here we go again. Any argument is good in the election campaign for advertising and propaganda ”. The councilor for hunting, Mauro Febbo, thus replies to the accusations of the regional councilor Maurizio Acerbo. "The Abruzzo Region absolutely does not intend to open the hunt for roe deer but is working, instead, on a proposal for a regulation on the management of ungulates, shared by all, which can no longer be postponed for the problems that this lack of management of the species creates in the rural world, to farmers and protected species themselves. In fact, it has now been established by the scientific world that the deer is a strong competitor of the Abruzzo chamois ".
“Not only - remarks Mauro Febbo - in fact, the worrying news launched by the environmental association 'Wilderness' concerning the bear and its lack of control of the wild boar and deer populations is just today. "In fact - the biologist of the Wildlife Planning Office of the Abruzzo Region Franco Recchia specifies - today it is no longer possible to postpone, in the green region of Europe, a fundamental tool such as a Regulation on ungulates with the aim of still knowing the consistency of deer species and roe deer. The knowledge of the populations of ungulates, their consistency, as well as their health status, is a necessary prerequisite for a correct management of the species. All information will be acquired on the basis of methodologies indicated by the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). Any withdrawals will be made only when Ispra expresses a binding favorable opinion ".
“With reference to Patom - continues Febbo - it is highlighted how the councilor Acerbo is uninformed about all the actions that the Region has put in place for the conservation of the Bear. Among the eight points envisaged by the Patom, action B1 on hunting has the objective of "adapting the management of hunting activities in the areas of interest to the bear with the presence of the species".
In October 2011, the Agriculture Directorate asked the Ministry of the Environment, and then accepted, the assignment of the coordination of action B1, through the establishment of a restricted technical table (TTR) in which Ispra also participates. . To date, the first and only table to have given substance to the activities envisaged by the Patom. "In all this context - concludes the commissioner Febbo - the Abruzzo Region has started the procedure to adopt a Regulation in accordance with the law in order to continue the path started with the Ministry of the Environment both for a correct management of the species and for a growth of the hunting culture compatible with a sustainable collection ".
