Hunting in Abruzzo: the Regional Council approves the changes to the Hunting Calendar to adhere to the precautionary ordinance of the Tar of L'Aquila following an animal rights appeal.
Today morning the Abruzzo Regional Council approved the resolution containing the changes to the 2012-2013 Regional Hunting Calendar as proposed by the councilor for hunting, Mauro Febbo who explained “This is, it is right to remember, a measure implemented with the aim of adapting the calendar itself to the observations included in the precautionary order of the TAR issued in acceptance of the applicants' request (Italian Animalists and WWF); the discussion of the merits was postponed to June 2013 ".
Finally Febbo concluded “I want to remind you that we remain confident in view of the ruling of merit of the TAR as the validity of the choices made by the competent Management will be amply supported and demonstrated there. I also want to underline how both the Department and the competent Offices took action very quickly to safeguard the right of hunters to practice hunting ”.
Among the changes approved today are those concerning the Woodcock species for which the closure of the hunting period was set at 31 December 2012 and further prescriptions were added to the occurrence of adverse weather conditions and for the return of the wings of the culled animals to the ATC.
As previously announced by the councilor Febbo, as regards hunting in the SIC and ZPS areas, for hunting hare and wild boar, the weekly days have been reduced to two and the number of dogs per team must not exceed three.
Pigeon and jay hunting is forbidden within the SIC areas where the presence of the Lanner or Peregrine Falcon has been reported; in the same way as regards the areas of stable presence of the Bear, whose cartography is published on the website of the Ministry of the Environment, the hunt for wild boar and fox has been postponed both in opening and in closing, from 1 November 2012 at 31 January 2013, the more restrictive measures envisaged for zone C1 were also applied within the SIC sites.
The measures envisaged for zone C2 have been applied to the other areas falling outside the PNALM external protection zone; it is also forbidden to use single-shot ammunition containing lead in areas where the presence of the Red Kite and the Griffon has been ascertained.
