Hunting Accidents: the anti-huntsmen denounce "thirteen deaths in a month of hunting" and in an appeal to the Minister of the Interior they ask for "stricter rules"; environmentalists paint a picture from the far west.
The complaint comes from the Victims of Hunting Association which, after just over a month from the official opening of the Hunting Season, makes a sad balance by counting thirteen people killed and thirty-three injured due to hunting accidents. The National Animal Protection Organization was associated with the anti-hunting choir which, in consideration of the extent of the accidents that occurred during the exercise of the hunting activity, addressed an urgent appeal to the Minister of the Interior, Anna Maria Cancellieri, requesting that the possible to prevent similar incidents from happening by intensifying specific controls on the entire National Territory and also adopting even more rigorous measures.
The national president of Enpa, Carla Rocchi, commented on the issue as follows, "It is unacceptable that many people continue to die or, in the best cases, to be seriously injured, due to errors by hunters, or those who handle weapons. for fun".
Continuing, the president of the Enpa makes an urgent appeal to Minister Cancellieri, “We ask for more severe and restrictive measures, introducing for example for all those who practice the hunt the obligation of psychophysical fitness to be renewed every year. Also in consideration of the fact that many hunters are over seventy and that some accidents take place at home due to forgetfulness and distractions in the custody of the weapon ".
Continuing, Ronchi asks the Minister "to shed light on the inadequacy of the weapons used, which have a range far greater than the safety distances provided for houses on the streets, and to intensify controls".
Finally, the president of Enpa concludes by stating "We are sure that these requests of ours will not go unheeded and that Minister Cancellieri, whose sense of responsibility we appreciate, knows how to intervene firmly by accepting an appeal shared by all Italian citizens who want and have the full right to live in safety ".
The picture painted by the environmental associations leaves room for imagining a Far West situation where in every countryside, forest and even among the houses there is a bad hunter ready to shoot at anything that moves, even speaking of "people frightened by the shooting and forced to barricade themselves at home due to the real risk of being victims of guns ".
Taking note of the sad toll of victims of hunting accidents and expressing deep regret for both the victims and their families, however, we must point out that we cannot make easy alarmism in order to carry on the principle of "Against hunting by force, always and Anyway!".
In fact, scraping the flashy and alarmist antihunting colors we would see that the original painting on the canvas is a little different: it turns out that the hunters, the real ones, are not enthusiastic people who, holding a rifle, are ready to shoot at anything that moves, but they are attentive observers of nature and love to be in contact with it, taking care of the places they frequent much more than the institutions and the environmentalists themselves do.
It turns out that true hunters are not interested in the game bag but in the simple outing with friends and with their dog, even if only to make him run around in the middle of the countryside or in a forest making him do what he has always been inclined to do and what comes to him most. congenial: To hunt!
It turns out that real hunters handle weapons according to the rules established by law and according to the rules of common sense; they would certainly not dream of approaching houses to hunt, much less of shooting at a nearby comrade or at roads and homes; it should be added that the Hunting Associations, in concert with the local Administrations, every year take action for information campaigns aimed at raising awareness and spreading the culture of safety in hunting more widely.
Accidents are accidents by definition and can happen in any situation of daily life; you can fall from scaffolding, fall down stairs, have a motorcycle or car accident, and all this despite doing everything possible to prevent any dangerous situation.
Accidents with deaths and injuries on Italian roads are counted in the thousands every year, as well as accidents at work or domestic ones but this does not mean that all citizens are prohibited from driving by car or a worker is prohibited from doing their job. and even the state would never dream of forbidding a person to leave the house to avoid accidents.
On the other hand, we can only agree with the need to carry out more accurate checks for the issue of firearms licenses in order to prevent people, unfortunately no longer in possession of the necessary psychophysical requirements for any reason (not for force the elderly must be considered a priori people incapable and without the aforementioned requirements), they can wander around our countryside and our woods with a weapon that in their hands could easily become more dangerous than it already is by definition.
