The Savona CIA agrees with the mayor Rozzi on the solutions to the cinchial problem: "A rigorous control system is essential".
The CIA, the Italian Farmers' Confederation of Savona, supports the statements of the mayor of Giustenice (SV), Ivano Rozzi, regarding the excessive presence of wild boars and the enormous damage caused by these animals.
The CIA president of Savona, Aldo Alberto, and the vice president, Valtero Sparso, explain on the matter, “These ungulates have literally brought the agriculture of the hinterland to its knees. Several times our organization has argued that the Ligurian hinterland was radically changing: many crops are no longer practiced, the meadows are no longer able to mow so much they are degraded and excavated. The increasingly smaller agricultural areas are barricaded like besieged forts ”.
Continuing the exponents of the CIA further explained, "Last September our organization presented a petition with about two thousand signatures, collected in a few months, to draw attention to these issues and to propose alternatives to a hunting management system that wild boars is no longer sustainable and acceptable. It is evident that the number of wild boars is too high for our territory. The income of professional growers is at risk and at the same time the land maintenance work by part-time growers is compromised ”.
Continuing, Alberto and Sparso affirm “We believe that a new balance must be reached as soon as possible between the presence of ungulates, the sporting expectations of hunters and the interests of tourism and agriculture in Savona. We must be aware that some areas of our territory (including the hinterland) must be considered as areas "not suited" to the presence of wild boar, as already envisaged by the Liguria region with the resolution of 31 July 2009. In these areas, wild animals must not be present, this result will be achieved not only through ordinary hunting but through control and defense methods, solutions already being implemented in other areas of Italy ”.
Furthermore, I add the two CIA exponents, “Other areas, to be identified, may have a greater density of wild boars up to the maximum allowed by the capacity of the territory itself. Even the refuges will have to be redesigned in harmony with this new vision of the territories ".
According to the CIA of Savona, “in order to respond to the just protests of the mayors and the territory, a rigorous control system is indispensable that contemplates the identification of areas without the presence of wild boar (zero density); allow individuals to hunt more freely in defense of agricultural land; confirm extraordinary jokes as long as they are effective; alternative methods such as trapping cages and fences; also use of the provincial police ".
Finally, the president Alberto and the vice president Sparso, concluding they affirm that “The Liguria Region and the Province must give quick and convincing answers on these issues that have been on the table for too long. There can no longer be an exhausting mediation on small interests but we must have the ability to break the mold with innovative proposals to give those answers that all citizens and our hinterland are waiting for ”.
