Hunting and Fauna: Arezzo, against the incessant raids of the ungulates, the hunting guards arrive to defend the crops; forty volunteer farmers trained to intervene to support businesses in difficulty.
While the devastating incursions of ungulates on Arezzo agricultural land multiply, more than 40 hunting security guards are ready to help companies. Yes, because Coldiretti Arezzo, once again, took to the field in support of its farms, organizing the training of farmers who, through participation in courses run by the Province, are acquiring, more and more numerous, precisely the title of security guard. voluntary hunting. "These are farmers, who, precisely in a completely voluntary manner - explains Leonardo Belperio, representative of the organization within the Territorial Area of Hunting of Arezzo and vice president of Coldiretti Arezzo - have the opportunity, once they have acquired the title, to be able to work alongside other farmers in defending their crops from the deadly raids of wild boars ”. A few numbers: "They have already reached the position with a lot of oath - explains Tulio Marcelli, president of Coldiretti Toscana and Arezzo - 28 hunting guards, to which others are being added, who have almost finished the course, so on the eve of this summer there will be, by Coldiretti, more than 40 hunting guards who will be able to help farmers in difficulty to defend themselves from the assaults of ungulates, in a delicate moment like this when wild boar hunting is at a standstill, and it will be until September, while on the defenseless fields the crops take shape attracting wild animals ”.
It is clear that this is a way to help farmers defend themselves, but from Coldiretti Arezzo there is also a call to local authorities for a broader and stronger overall commitment to definitively resolve this now long-standing, increasingly pressing problem: "The farmers do not ask for impossible things - explains Marcelli - but simply to be enabled to cultivate in peace, as was the case until a few years ago, when the density of wild animals was still reasonable ”. This is a battle, concludes the president, "that Coldiretti Arezzo will carry out vigorously as always alongside companies and its shareholders: it is a problem that needs rapid times, also to avoid the closure of the many damaged companies, keeping I realize that every day wild boars and other ungulates literally eat over 10 thousand euros of Tuscan agricultural crops ".
