Hunting and Fauna: Molise, wild boar alarm from Coldiretti; "Ten times more than allowed, 28 animals per 100 hectares".
They represent the nightmare of farmers, because in the space of one night they manage to destroy entire crops. This is why Coldiretti returns to sound the alarm boars, a problem that afflicts Molise more than other Italian regions. And if the presence of ungulates is widespread throughout the territory, there are areas where the number of heads is very high, not to mention disproportionate. Just think of the naturalistic oasis of Monte Vairano, a few kilometers from Campobasso, where the University of Molise has registered the presence of 28 wild boars per 100 hectares. An incredible number, more than ten times the allowed, if we consider that the regional law allows the presence of 2,5 animals per 100 hectares. Obviously the wild boars are not confined within the oasis, but in herd they cross the surrounding countryside, making a clean sweep of what they find. And causing damage. Notable. According to Coldiretti in one year, the damage caused in Molise by wild boars and other wild animals amounted to 800.000 euros. An underestimated figure, given that farms, due to bureaucratic delays and the smallness of compensation, which are negligible compared to the losses suffered, often also renounce to submit requests for reimbursement.
"Considering that the phenomenon is to be considered a real emergency - this is the position of Coldiretti Molise - it becomes vital, for farms and for the regional natural ecosystem, the implementation of management plans, already developed by Ispra. It is also necessary to promote prevention measures, activating insurance and tenders for investments destined for structural interventions ”. This is also in consideration of the fact that the European Commission has recently declared the preparation, at national or regional level, of specific prevention, control and compensation measures for damage caused by wildlife to farms compatible with the rule on state aid.
Hence the request that Coldiretti addresses to the Region and the Provinces of Campobasso and Isernia to carry out urgent initiatives to limit the presence of wild boars and other wild animals (wolves and stray dogs) in the area. And to guarantee the payment of damages to farmers in a short time. Which, already due to the crisis, are barely able to keep their businesses alive.
