Yesterday, a young farm worker from San Mauro Castelverde was attacked by a female wild boar. The episode took place in the valley of the Pollina river, between the territory of San Mauro and that of Geraci Siculo in the Madonie Park. The young man, 33-year-old Domenico Colantoni, was accompanied to the emergency room in Cefalù where he was found to have severe trauma to his foot and leg. Colantoni, together with a friend, was picking black olives in one of his farms, when the female wild boar rushed out from behind a bush and aggressively charged him repeatedly throwing him on the ground; only thanks to the friend who immediately stoned the animal, the worst was avoided.
“It is not possible that a concrete solution to the problem cannot be found - affirms the Deputy Mayor of San Mauro Giovanni Nicolosi. With the Parco delle Madonie we held many meetings on the problem, not least that of a month ago in the presence of the Regional Councilor for Agriculture Cartabellotta, but we are still waiting for a solution to the problem. I think that the more time passes, the more serious the problem becomes - continues Nicolosi - and that the only effective solution is to make hunting trips, obviously controlled by the authorities in charge, with firearms even inside the Park before there run away the dead.
