In the Cilento Park there is a wild boar emergency and the Salerno regional councilors Pica and Valiante are interested in the problem with specific measures.
Already in recent days the Regional Councilor Gianfranco Valiante had expressed himself on the problem of the excessive proliferation of wild boars in the territory of the Cilento National Park and on the consequent increase in damage to agriculture and property.
The Salerno regional councilor, Gianfranco Valiante, with his own letter to the president Amilcare Troiano and to the regional governor Stefano Caldoro, highlighted the issue of the wild boar emergency in the territory of the Cilento National Park, Vallo di Diano and Alburni.
Councilor Valiante explained, "The damage that these animals cause to crops, ecosystems and territories is increasingly worrying, it is necessary to create an extraordinary plan, as already arranged in other regions, which at least combines the use of manhole covers for the capture of young animals to a more decisive, organized and programmed action of controlled killing of adult wild boars. This action could start immediately, in some well-identified areas, using the selecontrollers available to the park and the staff of the forestry and other institutions to avoid other and more serious problems ”.
During a meeting on the subject organized in Sant'Angelo a Fasanella (SA) by the Alburni City Committee and attended by all the mayors of the area, the re-measurement of the Park was again requested starting from an altitude of 800 meters and opening of hunting in protected areas at certain times of the year to prevent the excessive proliferation of wild boars.
According to councilor Valiante “We must hurry and also provide for fast bureaucratic procedures to compensate farmers for damages and contributions for the construction of special fences. The problem of the invasiveness and excessive presence of wild boar in the Alburni area is a problem that must certainly be tackled with the tools permitted by law by putting in place, however, measures that improve the quality of life of the communities and allow farmers to work. with serenity, without the fear of continuous damage ".
The regional councilor Donato Pica also expressed his opinion on the wild boar problem in the Cilento National Park, representing that they are working on a solution to the issue with containment measures for wild boars already with the new regional text on hunting activity being evaluated by the Regional Commission for Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing.
Councilor Pica himself proposed a specific article for the new legislation concerning the control of wild boar populations in order to prevent damage caused by the excessive presence of these animals.
In fact, Pica explained that, “The law in question is currently under the attention of the Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing Commission of the Regional Council, which is processing the observations received from the hunting world and from environmental associations”.
Continuing, the councilor Pica said, "With regard to the problem of wild boars, which is very much felt in the province of Salerno, the possibility has been introduced to contain the populations of ungulates, establishing periods and spatial boundaries even different from those identified for hunting" .
Finally, the councilor Pica concluded by stating, “The Campania region therefore has the substitutive powers in the event of non-compliance by the bodies responsible for developing containment and prevention programs. A first concrete answer to the long-standing problem of damage caused by wildlife, especially in the internal areas of Cilento ”.
