The Italian Farmers' Confederation of Savona launches a new ungulate alarm in the Savona area: “A new ungulate control system is needed”.
"The damage caused by wild animals increases dramatically" declares Aldo Alberto who continues: "Sightings in inhabited centers are more and more numerous and it is evident that this species of animals now represents a big problem, not only for the agricultural world, but also for the safety of people. Knowing that an educational garden for school children has been seriously damaged by these animals leaves a strong bitterness in the mouth. For over a year, the CIA leadership has been fighting for institutions to recognize the problem and plan new measures. We are strongly convinced that this new appeal will not go unnoticed ”.
After the petition presented to the province to ask for new forms of control on ungulates, the CIA reiterates the need to move from a simple hunting system to a control system with the identification of "not suitable" areas, or specific areas in which ungulates they can live but from which they cannot cross over (as we try to implement in other Italian regions such as the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and in some areas of the Cuneo area); the approval of a specific control plan that includes zero-density areas, the level of density in other areas, self-defense with the implementation of all the methods necessary for containment, also allowing the mechanism of invitation to individual hunters on the fund from those who do not have a gun license; allow killing methods such as stakeout shooting, even at night, capture cages and fences; the activation of a permanent observatory that regularly checks situations and areas of crisis and mechanisms for empowering hunters in ordinary hunting with verification of the results, providing for the rotation of hunting areas.
“To definitively solve the problem, the position taken by the mayors who see their territory disfigured is also of fundamental importance - concludes Alberto -. To limit the damage caused by ungulates, our association will continue its battle, ready as always to give by hand ”.
