Hunting and Fauna: the Italian Provincial Farmers Confederation of Siena denounces the demographic explosion of wild boar and roe deer from the Sienese to some areas of the Val di Chiana.
Ungulates are still alarming for Sienese agriculture. Excessive presence of wild boar and roe deer - reports the CIA Siena - which in recent weeks have been damaging the territory: from the Chianti areas to the Montagnola Senese, from the Val d'Arbia to the Val d'Orcia up to some areas of the Val di Chiana the exasperation of farmers for the increasingly visible presence of ungulates that damage the land sown or about to be sown. Despite the efforts made towards the end of the hunting season in which numerous animals have been killed in many areas of the territory - underlines Luca Marcucci, president of CIA Siena - there are several outbreaks of alarm where farmers continue to report a worrying presence of wild boars and roe deer ".
"In light of these considerations, the agricultural world that the CIA of Siena represents, asks the Politics and the competent institutional bodies, for an amendment to the regulations of the national framework law and the regional law that regulate the planning and management of the territory in order to protect the right of farmers to do business in a modern and competitive way and at the same time allowing them to be a fundamental part of the role of custodians of biodiversity in the territories in which they operate and live with their families ".
This widespread and growing alarm - says the Sienese CIA - strongly affects the state of great uncertainty due to the trend of the agricultural year, the delay in autumn-winter sowing and the upcoming agricultural work due to severe weather adversities, making the situation extremely heavy. of hardship of agricultural enterprises. "It is necessary to immediately initiate a decisive action aimed at reducing such a strong presence of wild boars in our territory - explains the head of hunting policies of the CIA Siena, Fabio Tiberini - and at the same time it is equally necessary to adopt all those measures that guarantee the use of adequate tools for the control and reduction of deer, especially roe deer, whose number is likely to explode in consideration of the growing constraints, snares and snares of which the selective removal of this species is hostage ".
The perimeter of "conservation management" that regulates all the phases of the management of wildlife and hunting activities, strongly desired and pursued by some components of the environmental and hunting world, is no longer suitable for guaranteeing environmental and natural balance - concludes the CIA Siena - as well as the necessary sustainability especially in relation to the real nature and the strong characterization of the Sienese territory.
