Hunting and Fauna: Teramo, good results for measures to combat the problem boars, claims for damages are reduced by 26% r.
On the occasion of the pre-opening of the Hunting (last September 2) the Province announced a series of news and presented the data on the Boar containment plan implemented between May and July. Funding for training and dissemination activities regarding hunting and mycological activities will be disbursed on the basis of public tenders and on project presentation. On the monitoring and control of the territory, we will be assisted by the provincial ecological guards to strengthen prevention and assessment activities.
The results of the containment plan were significant, as explained this morning by the president Renzo Di Sabatino and by the councilor Massimo Vagnoni, assisted by the sector official, Giovanni Castiglione and by the commander of the Provincial Police, Fabio Di Vincenzo. With the harvesting plan implemented between May and July, 375 wild boars were killed and claims for damage decreased by 26% compared to the same period last year.
The ungulate containment plan - only with select controllers trained by the body and under the supervision of the Provincial Police - was implemented outside the hunting period (October-December) to limit the proliferation of a species that causes significant economic and social. The data provide elements of reflection with respect to the management of the containment activity of the species and lead to hypothesize - if the intervention scheme is maintained - a decrease in damage, over a five-year period, of about 50%.
It should be considered that in the years in which no action was taken between March and August, over 350 thousand euros of reimbursement requests were received, especially from farmers. "The Plan is the demonstration that a synthesis can be found between the positions of hunters and the need to protect agriculture and people from a proliferation of the species that has altered the faunal chain to the detriment of the environment and man - the President commented - to be fully effective for this purpose, containment should start even earlier, between March and April, and this is the goal for next year, it being understood that it is one of those competences that should return to the Region ”.
The news regarding the management of the hunting activity On the occasion of the reopening of hunting - 2 September, 31 December - the Province announced the introduction of a series of news concerning the management of the hunting activity and the relationship with associations and territory. Training projects for mycology courses will be chosen through a public announcement (made mandatory for hunters by the legislation on mushroom picking LR 34/2006, both for obtaining the collection card and for its five-year update).
In order to be financed, the courses must comply with the requirements expressly provided for by the regional law, such as duration, subjects covered and must be completely free for users. The purpose of the provision is precisely to guarantee mushroom hunters, who are almost 8.000 in our province, a better distribution of courses in the area in order to facilitate their usability. The sum of 18.000 allocated by the Province for the year 2015 will allow Municipalities and Associations to carry out about 9 initiatives, achieving almost total coverage of the provincial territory.
The total availability foreseen for the year 2015 is 18.000 euros, a sum divided into two different lots divided between public and private bodies: 12.000 euros in favor of public bodies, ASL, the Zooprophylactic Institute, the ARTA Department of L'Aquila and the University; 6.000 euros in favor of private individuals and mycological associations. The dissemination activities on fauna and its correct management and protection will also be financed on the basis of a public tender. The funding is that provided by the regional law on the protection of fauna and hunting activity LR10 / 2004 in the specific art.48. The law provides that the Provinces "promote the active collaboration of the school and social organizations, to spread the knowledge of the wildlife heritage and the ways of its protection, also through the purchase of publications, audiovisual and educational material in the field of fauna, dog lovers and environmental in general.
The announcement will be aimed at the world of associations and in particular that of hunting associations ". Finally, an agreement will be signed in the next few days with the GEV - Voluntary ecological guards - which will allow the establishment of a surveillance service, coordinated by the Provincial Police, aimed at strengthening environmental monitoring and protection with particular reference to mycological environments.
“Through the contribution of the volunteers it will be possible to increase the dissemination, prevention and control activities with respect to mushroom picking by providing the possibility of investigating violations of the law in mycological material. This is what is read in a press release issued the same day by the press service of the Province of Teramo. The news, reported here according to the complete text of the press release issued, was disclosed at 16 pm also through the website of the entity, through which the news was relaunched. - explained the councilor Vagnoni - it is also our intention to use part of the funding to activate new courses for the Ecological Guards considering that the support of volunteer citizens is proving very useful in the environmental field ".
