Hunting and Fauna: Umbria, the Italian Farmers Confederation denounces the Wolves and Wild Boars emergency in the region; the damage to agriculture is increasing.
“It is not only wild boars that cause enormous damage to farms throughout the region. Now the wolves are also striking and devastating the high-quality farms, located in the high hills or on the slopes of the mountains, pushing themselves up to get close to the houses ". This is what the CIA of Umbria denounces following the latest attacks by wild animals that have devastated entire areas of the region, irremediably compromising agriculture and animal husbandry. On the wild boar front, the latest reports come from the western shore of the Trasimeno where, near Panicarola, the crops of some fruit and vegetable companies that have been the target for years of the ruinous assaults of the ravenous suide have been completely destroyed. The problem is getting worse and worse and is added to the insurmountable bureaucratic obstacles which, in fact, prevent the obtaining of adequate compensation for high quality crops as in the case of the completely damaged vineyards for the production of Orvieto Doc wine in the Titignano area. But even more serious, if possible, is the situation reported by some breeders who in San Vito in Monte, near San Venanzo, have suffered repeated raids by ravenous packs of wolves who have bought up cattle and horses. The damage is considerable and the drama was touched upon with the wolves who came dangerously close to people. The attacks were videotaped by the video traps positioned by the Province of Terni following detailed reports; there is therefore a direct and incontrovertible testimony of what happened.
For the CIA of Umbria these phenomena can no longer be tolerated or dealt with with ordinary tools, which have proved ineffective. For the Agricultural Organization, this delicate issue must be addressed with new rules also at the national level, in this regard the signals coming from Parliament are positive: just last May 16 the Agriculture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved, on the initiative of Monica Faenzi and Nicodemo Oliverio, a Resolution that commits the Government to take, an agreement with the European Union, initiatives to deal with the dangerous spread of the problem.
However, in the meantime, it is necessary and urgent for the Umbria Region to pay the full compensation of the affected farmers and breeders, in full compliance with the provisions contained in the regional law n. with clarity the actions of prevention and containment of the different species. The impossibility of postponing these interventions is also justified by the fact that the issue of the excessive presence of wild animals, in particular wolves, has made a dangerous leap in quality, clearly assuming, with the risk of people's safety, the contours of a public order problem.
