Hunting and Migration: Federcaccia presents the project "ANA SAT - Satellite telemetry applied to anatids" in the schools of Macerata.
On the occasion of the Festa della Piccola Grande Italia, the Federcaccia Sections of Montelupone and Macerata presented the project “Ana Sat - Satellite telemetry applied to anatids” to the attentive and interested schoolchildren. It was in Montelupone that the event took place in the vicinity of the Potenza River, a suitable environment to illustrate the whole project, which has met with great success among the students, as it is innovative and allows in real time by connecting to the site: www.progettoanatidisatellitare. com to follow the "marked" teals. The latter are equipped with a satellite transmitter that allows them to constantly monitor all their movements.
Among other things, the project was sponsored for the Marche Region by the Territorial Areas of Hunting Macerata 2, Pesaro 2, Ancona 1 and Federcaccia Marche. It was explained that this research is providing reliable indications on the migration period and guidelines, on the local movements of the wintering populations in Italy and on the definition of the migration times of the Italian teal populations.
In two years, ten teals have been marked in Tuscany, eleven in Veneto and four in Lombardy, all females.
The project was born from the collaboration between the Interuniversity Research Center on Game and Environmental Improvements for wildlife purposes, of which the Department of Biology of the University of Pisa is an integral part, and the Associazione Cacciatori Migratori Acquatici (ACMA), sectoral of the Federcaccia , and member of the FIDC Migratory Birdlife Office with responsibilities regarding migratory game. Surely with this project it is possible to inform the new generations without ideological preconceptions of all the work done by hunters to manage aquatic fauna correctly with research data.
