Hunting and Migration: ANUU Migratoristi provides information on the migratory pass in Italy which denotes an abundance of thrushes and wood pigeons, "Migrants give the numbers and respect the saints".
The title represents, at the end of the second decade of October, a post-nuptial migration that has not been admired for years and that involves all the species that fly over the Italian territory during the long journey to the wintering shores. The numerical abundance of Song Thrush, Blackcap, Frosone, Finch, Robin, Wood pigeon and Merlo makes it clear that these are presences arrived during the migratory passage which are added, in some cases, to subjects already nesting in the areas. It is then noted that in all cases the species respected the so-called ornithological calendar in correlation with the usual dates that recall the Christian holidays of some saints of the liturgical calendar. In this regard, it should be remembered that the Thrushes appeared in particular on 29 September, the day of San Michele, on 4 October for San Francesco, on 6 October in San Bruno and on 15 October, on the feast of Santa Teresa. All this confirms how our "elders" linked certain dates to the ornithological calendar, usually written to coincide with the passage of our wayfarers of the sky.
The week just ended still gave a good presence of the Song Thrush, with a tip at the end of the weekend, and a good presence of the Blackbird, together with that of the Sparrow, the Robin and the Redwing. And, while small groups of Siskin can be seen flying over the low hill, the first two Peppole were ringed at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory in Arosio on October 18, a species that had already appeared in the north during the week with sporadic individuals.
While above 1.000 m. the first appeared Fieldfare in migration, Larks, Pispole, Fanelli and Woodcocks have been reported in the plains. From abroad there are news of a good song thrush in Greece, while in the south of France the bad weather has unfortunately slowed down its migration. On the peninsula, however, autumn is being forgiven with a weekend with temperatures of 25 degrees. Excellent migration that was not disturbed by the weather.
