One could not think, with the good weather of September, of such an anomalous situation that is determining a migratory season that started well and continued until the end of September. It seems to have plunged into the winter season, as the last week was determined by bad weather, with snowfalls at high altitudes. On the mountains of Como and Bergamo, a few kilometers from the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio, on the morning of 11 October the flakes whitened the territories which, only after midday, returned to their autumnal appearance. In this meteorological context it is difficult to draw a firm conclusion on the conditions of the pass. Suffice it to say that, if on the one hand we began to observe the first Peppole in movement and the first capture of the Redwing at the Arosio Observatory, accompanied by some Siskin and Passera scopaiola, they were still ringed, in the stations of northern Italy. , Estatine species such as Nightjar, Assiolo, Little Shrike, Northern Wheatear, Black Balia and Redstart.
Still absent are the Regula, the Blackbirds and the Tit in general including the Great Tit, especially the latter numerously abundant in the north-east of Europe where over three thousand were ringed in the last weekend, marking a record of presence and forcing the ringers to close the networks in order to analyze them. As far as the other species are concerned, there is a good passage of Colombacci in central Italy, where Thrush and Blackbird are scarce, such as the Skylarks in the south and already reported in the north of the peninsula.
There is a good presence of waders such as Piovanelli pancianera and Pivieresse. Among the ducks, the Teal is reported almost everywhere in the humid areas. There is news from Greece where an excellent migratory step is taking place, while in France the migration is more evident on the coast than in the hinterland. In the next few days, the evolution of the situation will be determined which, hopefully, will be positive with the arrival of a new and substantial number of migrants.
