Hunting and Migration. The last week of October still gave us interesting moments regarding a migratory step autumn that in northern Italy we count among the best of this season.
For those who love statistics and curiosities, it should be remembered that at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio (European Foundation the NIBBIO) over the last weekend the milestone of the two hundred thousandth subject ringed from 4 August 1977 was reached, i.e. since the station began the purely technical-scientific activity: it is a male of Brambling (Fringilla montifringilla) passing through the hospitable tree plant on Saturday 31/10/2015 at 9.00.
After the ringing operation, i.e. when the INFS LX13505 serial ring was applied to the tarsus of the beautiful young male specimen and the usual biometric measurements were taken, the FEIN team was delighted by the important result achieved in the 2015: a truly positive year for ornithological research ..
But the last week, always in the Arosian station, was fascinating thanks to the presence of the Song Thrush which demonstrated, once again this year, how excellent its state of conservation is. And so it can be said of the Chaffinch, the Robin and the Blackcap which have always been observed and analyzed in good numbers.
Excellent presence of Peppola reappeared together with the discontinuous Lucherini, after years of scarce presence, with a good number of subjects. Also interesting is the presence of Cesena both in the north and in central Italy where, even in the low hills and plains, it is observed in small erratic flocks, igniting the hopes of enthusiasts.
More localized and scarce the Redwing, while the Blackbird has been observed in a more continuous and numerous way. In the northern and central countryside the Lark and the Pispola showed up in good numbers. The Colombaccio pass is excellent.
On the Beccaccia there is nothing particular to report except some fruitful but very localized encounters throughout the peninsula. So it was for the common snipe and anatids in general.
