Hunting and Migration. The excellent weather conditions confirmed that the third week of October, which runs from Monday 19th to Sunday 25th, was excellent from a migratory point of view.
At the FEIN Ornithological Observatory in Arosio, there are still several Song Thrushes raising the number of subjects analyzed and exceeding by far the number of last year, which was still positive in most of the peninsula.
The week, which has just ended, gave the thrill of seeing the premieres Fieldfare at low altitudes that occurred from north to central Italy. The Blackbird is also registering an excellent presence, accompanied by the Robin and the Tordela. On the other hand, the number of Rock Thrushes, observed and well localized, is discreet.
There is good news of the presence of the Wood pigeon in the center north and the Lark in the north and south of the peninsula. Among the field birds, the more than satisfactory presence of the pipit is also underlined. Among the finches, Fringuello and Peppola are the most numerous, while the Siskin is still desired. And so does the Frosone. There is also excellent news of the presence of Snipe to the south, while there is nothing particular to report on the presence of the woodcock and anatidae in general. But the real problem is that the territory and the environment in general are shrinking more and more, losing a lot of biodiversity.
From Greece there is news about the excellent passage of the Song Thrush which took place on 17,18,19 days. While, from France it is confirmed that the presence of the same turdid with about eight days of difference between the peak of northern Italy and the French one. This allows us to reconfirm that the hypothetical migratory line of the species ringed in the north and, for example, in the Arosian station, follows the direction of Liguria - Côte d'Azur to arrive in Spain.
If we consider the positive weather in the north, it should be emphasized that the weather conditions in central and southern Italy this season were not optimal due to the presence of winds adverse to migration, which caused the absence or scarcity of many species in the area. and the considerable numerical difference that has characterized the migratory phenomenon up to now. Finally, it should be remembered that, as has been the case for many years, the research on reading the wings of culled thrushes continues with enthusiasm in order to analyze the age-ratio of turdidae in post-nuptial migration on our territory.
