Hunting and Migration. The summer of San Martino is presenting itself very long and early, making us forget the old habits of seeing autumn with the beginning of November.
From 20 October (except for a rapid change on 27 and 28) the sky is clear with some lowering of night temperatures and with days where the thermometer column rises by 8/10 degrees above the seasonal norm.
In this somewhat anomalous weather context, migration has significant alternations but, above all and strangely, Nordic species are appearing which are often accompanied by low temperatures. The Fieldfare I am an example of this, so much so that for years in the north there have not been seen in large numbers as this year. Their good presence was also noticed in central Italy.
Redwing thrush that makes you want, while Lark, Siskin, Peppola, Fringuello, Storno and Tordela, accompanied by the Robin, the Blackbird and the Regulus, are presenting themselves in a more than positive way. In short, apart from the Song Thrush, still present in a small way, the other species are not respecting the dates of the Saints and with them also the proverbs of our elders who wanted some species to be present only with the temperatures suitable for the season.
Among the non passerines also the Woodcock, especially towards the end of the first week of November, it reappeared in a positive way both in northern and central Italy. Although in the center-south the weather conditions have influenced the start of the migration, in the last week just ended some species have given new emotions from north to south, underlining that the post-nuptial migration is taking place, as a whole, in positive way.
