Hunting and Migration: ANUU Migratoristi provides the observations on the migratory pass in Italy, “Frosoni arrive and thrushes continue”.
Suddenly the weather conditions of the first ten days of October changed. The weather did not allow many sunny days, although the temperature never dropped below 18 ° C, with warm air, but with significant humidity. The second weekend did not have beautiful days and the tragic situation in Liguria, with particular reference to Genoa, is a tangible example of a strong lack of interest in protecting our landscape with a management system adrift. While for peninsular Italy a hot and dry component prevailed with typically summer days, autumn appeared in the north, and we hope that post-nuptial migration will take place gradually. THE Thrushes they had a fair passage until Saturday 11 October and Sunday 12, in various areas, we witnessed a small "fury" of the pass. And so it was for the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio where, on this last day, there were many ringed song Thrushes, accompanied also by the arrival of the first Redwing of the season.
The Pettirosso and Fininguello passes are also excellent, but the surprise was the massive arrival of the Frosone which has been abundant throughout northern Italy since early October. This nice species is accompanied by the Sweeping Sparrow and, again, the so-called trans-Saharan latecomers such as Cannaiola, Forapaglie spotted, Torcicollo, Prispolone, Codirosso and Beccafico which have been observed in areas of northern Italy but, above all, have been ringed precisely in these last periods, always at the Arosian station.
I discontinued the step of Merlo and again of the Blackcap. The wood pigeon is also having a good migratory movement and like him the starling and the teal. And there are still reports of woodcock observations in the low hills, while abroad, and in particular in Greece, there are news of an excellent passage of quails, as well as in France near the Mediterranean coast many migrating thrushes have been observed. In short, if the post-nuptial migration continues at this rate, there are all the prerogatives to define the current period as an excellent year.
