Hunting and Migration: ANUU on the migratory pass in Italy, "winter arrives and the sums are drawn".
We are closing the excellent year to remember and it is time for final reports at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio which, also in 2014, took care of the news on step started on 4 August and ended with the first day of winter when, in northern Italy, the morning fog dominated, then giving way to a bright sun with temperatures above the seasonal norm.
However, studies will follow regarding the wintering species on site until January 31st. In 2014, 226 days of activity took place, with over 6.000 hours of technicians' presence divided into the various periods. We leave the “man” cost in the pen because it would exceed any contribution of the work done in the interest of ornithology and equivalent studies on rurality and, let us say, also to allow for regular sampling hunting "in giving and taking" towards those who truly love nature with deeds and not with words.
This last year of study has seen the ringing of as many as 6.674 subjects belonging to as many as 59 species. An intern from the University of St. Petersburg and, for forty days and for the tenth consecutive year, two interns from the University of Gdansk collaborated in this activity. The last week of activity still saw the Frosoni and the Regoli as protagonists, with some small presence of Peppole, Lucherini and Redwing thrushes. The Cesene are absent, seen only in some areas and in small numbers.
On the territory, in general, the excellent presence of the Blackbird and the Pettirosso and the good presence of the Woodcock together with the Song Thrush. As far as the anatidae are concerned, in particular a good erratic movement of Wigeons in the Po delta is noted. There is also nothing relevant to report for the Lapwing after the good observations of the past periods.
