Hunting and Migration. Sunday 15 November ends a week characterized by good weather and still with temperatures beyond the seasonal norm, with the exception of the weekend when a sudden heavy blanket of fog fell that touched the Po Valley. In this context, the migrazione had a slowdown.
However, in the territories of northern and central Italy the Cesena it has been noticed in good number, unlike the Redwing which has been seen more localized and less numerous. Fringuelli, Peppole, Siskin, Robin and Frosoni are still present in good numbers.
At the ornithological observatory of Arosio, bottacci thrushes were once again ringed, confirming the excellent migratory season of the species which, at least in northern Italy, saw them as protagonists. During the week the Regulus was noticed in a significant way and so it was for the Woodcock observed in several places in a constant way.
Nothing particular, however, is to be reported for the Snipe and ducks in general. And while in the north of the western Palaearctic, meteorological phenomena with consequent temperature drops have not yet occurred, at the Arosio ornithological station preparations are being made for the wintering project which will begin in the first decade of December and which will last until the end of January 2016 at purpose of monitoring those species that during the winter find a suitable site in the Brianza area in which to find shelter and food.
It is interesting to note that some finds of rings placed on the tarsus of the specimens killed during the hunting season are coming from the fans. Important reports that enrich the recapture database in order to know in detail the migratory movement of some individuals present in the area.
Together with this data collection, as already mentioned in previous press releases, the collection of thrush wings is also taking place in order to know the percentage of young and adult of song Thrush and Redwing thrush killed during the current hunting season.
