Hunt and Immigration. The migration season has been dying out for several days, but certainly not the enthusiasm of those who still challenge the morning rises in the hope of observing the beloved ones. Fieldfare which, after having deluded enthusiasts in various parts of Italy, from the mountains to the high plains, are now no longer observed in a constant and numerically abundant way.
But the reasoning we had made in previous reports confirms, once again, that if there are no very consistent weather changes in northern Europe, we cannot expect new erratic movements of the bird species towards the shores further south.
Here, then, how in the last week just ended we must be satisfied with the exceptional presence, albeit small, of the Song Thrush while, once again, we must confirm the numerical insufficiency of the Redwing. Unlike the latter, the Peppola, together with the Chaffinch, is observed in good numbers in different areas while the Siskin, in this season, always remains very localized.
At the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio it is time to take stock and from an initial examination the research season through scientific ringing, which is now ending, shows a positive picture of presence for almost all species. It will be our responsibility to present the definitive report in detail next January when the sums of the individual species analyzed and observed will be summed up, thanking, as of now, the heads of the foreign ornithological observatories in connection with FEIN (European Foundation Il Nibbio ) which has coordinated since August 2015, as every year, the news also coming from the diligent correspondents of the ANUU Migrators and from other attentive lovers of ornithological studies.
Thanks to all and best wishes for the next holidays.
