Hunting and Wildlife: meeting in the Chamber of Deputies to discuss the damage caused by wild boars.
A meeting in the Chamber of Deputies with the president of the agriculture commission Luca Sani to address the problem relating to the damage caused by wild boars, which is increasingly being characterized as a real emergency in the agricultural field. The president of the Province Marcello Meroi had it in recent days, together with the president of the provincial council Piero Camilli and the vice-president of the technical faunal committee Alberto Grazini. “The origin of the problem - explains President Meroi - lies entirely in a national legislation that is interested in protecting wild boars, but not in the same way the rights of farmers not to be harmed by them. It is a duty - continues the president - to guarantee the maintenance of the environmental balance and the natural habitat by safeguarding wildlife, but in a territory like Tuscia where agriculture continues to be the main source of income, you cannot stay indifferent in the face of the increasingly substantial damage that the proliferation of wild boars produces to local crops ".
Mr Sani has been asked for legislative action to change the national legislation on the matter. For Meroi, in fact, “it is necessary to introduce greater measures to safeguard the agricultural sector in the reference regulatory framework, providing for more effective containment actions. All this not to increase hunting activity, but to avoid local authorities having to pay out ever more exorbitant sums to compensate for the losses suffered by farmers due to the damage caused by wild boars ”.
“On the part of Mr Sani - concluded Meroi - we found attention, awareness of the problem, and a full willingness to address the issue in parliament. He informed us that the competent commission of the Chamber could soon be interested in a problem raised by other local institutions and by the Tuscany Region, perhaps providing for specific legislation to protect agricultural production ”.
