It happened a few days ago to a farmer from Riomaggiore, in the province of La Spezia, who was attacked by a herd of wild boars while he was inside his Beccara vineyard. The farmer recounts his own misadventure, “I had just entered my land when my dog went off like a rocket. I realized only after a few moments that he had launched himself against the wild boars who were feeding on the fruits of a plum tree. Suddenly I found myself face to face with at least three wild boars that frightened we were aiming at full speed ”.
Continuing the story the farmer says, “I had no other option than to throw myself into the plain below a jump of over two meters, fortunately muffled by a plant that provided me with a branch to cushion the fall. I have seen at least three wild boars, but surely there were other younger ones in tow. They formed a herd: now we no longer know how to defend ourselves ".
Considering the average weight of an adult boar, which is around eighty kilos, to the farmer jumping off the cliff will have seemed a more than acceptable solution compared to a direct confrontation with ungulates.
Fortunately, the man did not suffer major injuries in the fall, but he nevertheless filed a complaint about what happened to him at the Riomaggiore Carabinieri Station, also to represent to the authorities the worsening of a situation that is already unsustainable in itself.
In fact, it is now established that within the Cinque Terre National Park the populations of ungulates have reached excessive levels for the extension of the territory and by now there are no reports of damage caused by wildlife to crops and properties in the area.
The responsibility for damages and therefore the compensation of the same falls within the competence of the Cinque Terre National Park and the Province depending on whether they occur within the territory of the park or outside but in the territory of the Province of La Spezia.
