Hunting and Fauna: the ASL of Viterbo and the ATC Viterbo 1 sign an agreement for the prevention of wildlife diseases transmissible to humans.
Preventing communicable diseases from wildlife to humans; this is the purpose of the agreement, made between the manager of the “B - hygiene and health protection of food of animal origin” area of the ASL of Viterbo, Giuseppe Micarelli, and the president of the ATC Vt1, Antonino Corsini. Through the collaboration between veterinary services and hunters, it will be possible to monitor the epidemiological situation in our territory of diseases such as brucellosis, tuberculosis and trichinellosis in huntable wildlife.
The initiative, which has already started with sampling on boars, is of considerable interest for public health, in particular for the prevention of all those diseases that can be transmitted from wild to domestic species, but above all towards those diseases, indicated as zoonoses, which are transmitted with relative ease from wild species to man.
The role of the ATC wildlife technicians, Riccardo Primi, Paolo Viola, Fioravante Serrani and Giuseppe Catalini, and the managers of the wild boar management districts, Fabrizio Ronca, Enrico Brenciaglia, Angelo Salcini and Francesco Pompei, are of fundamental importance, who will coordinate together with the Asl veterinarians, inspections and sampling at wild boar hunting teams.
This collaboration is the demonstration of the awareness of those who dedicate themselves to hunting, to play a decisive role in the overall management of the fauna and zootechnical heritage.
