It was approved by the Regional Wildlife Committee on hunting calendar 2020/2021 of Sardinia. The opening is scheduled for Thursday 3 September with the turtle dove hunt (second and last day Sunday 6 September), at hooded crow and jay. From Sunday 20 September the huntable species will be mallard, teal, gadwall, pintail, wigeon, coot, moorhen, gargane, shoveler, pochard, water rail, snipe, whisk, blackbird, cesena and quail. For woodcock, song thrush, redwing, wood pigeon and fox we will have to wait for Thursday 1 October. Lark hunting from Sunday 4th October, lapwing from Thursday 15th October and wild boar hunting from Sunday 1st November. For the opening of the hunt for Sardinian hare, Sardinian partridge and wild rabbit it will be necessary to wait for the results of the summer censuses: the data will have to be processed, as last year, by 20 September.
This, said Gianni Lampis, councilor for environmental defense, “is the result of the activity which, since the beginning of the legislature, has represented a priority for the regional council. We started from year zero in hunting programming and we have taken steps to carry out the necessary wildlife censuses, not only in self-managed hunting but also in the free territory, thanks to the activities of the staff of the Forestry Corps and Forestas. In addition to the hare and the partridge, this year the censuses will also concern the rabbit ”. The hunting season will close on Sunday 31 January except for larks, blackbirds and quail (anticipated to Thursday 31 December), for woodcock (anticipated to Thursday 28 January 2021), for hooded crow, jay and wood pigeon (postponed to Wednesday 10 February 2021).
“In recent months - concluded Lampis - we have had a profitable dialogue with hunters and hunting associations. Together we are building a participatory process and loyal collaboration, which has the protection of the rural landscape and fauna as a priority commitment for both parties. In these days, many hunters are busy in our countryside, helping to extinguish the too many fires that are also set this summer. A deep thanks goes to them ”.
