Great organizational efforts
And also the Indoor specialty of archery on three-dimensional silhouettes had its official baptism, thus entering fully into the list of specialties available to all archers registered with Fidasc. This was an absolute first for both the Federation and for our discipline of archery and for the competitive sports world of Coni. The event was managed in tandem by ASD Arcieri Lupi del Nord and Arcieri delle Groane who, in close collaboration, put in all their organizational efforts for the complex management of the Championship, with an excellent result that can be held up as an example. As they say: unity is strength! The size of the structure of the sports hall in Solbiate con Cagno (Va), where the Championship took place, was very adequate to meet the needs of an Indoor competition of this size, which includes 18 shooting ranges and a maximum distance of 35 meters from the shooting line. The visual impact produced by the setting up of the targets - managed by ANIMAL 3D - was certainly impressive for archers accustomed to following courses in the woods. This is a well-equipped company that is well-tested in the archery world for its silhouettes - and not only - of good quality and durability. The stand, set up inside the sports hall, was very popular throughout the event.
Two Shot
The opening of the 3-day competition took place on Friday afternoon, dedicated to accreditation activities but, above all, an opportunity for archers from many regions of Italy to meet. Once the few necessary formalities were completed, they had plenty of time to tell stories about their competitions, their successes and failures, their new equipment and tools, but above all to share the pleasure of meeting up with friends, even if sometimes they were also competitors. Saturday morning opened the day of competitions with the Mameli Anthem and the archers who sang it with their hands on their hearts: a quick briefing before starting the first round of the competition in the “Two Shot” mode – two arrows in each of the 18 shooting positions set up for a total of 36 shots – time available 60 seconds for each volley, excellently paced and regulated by a functional audiovisual system and always under the careful supervision of the 3 Competition Directors on duty. The fascinating sound of 18 arrows that, almost simultaneously, crossed the airspace of the competition field, to then impact on the formation of silhouettes apparently crouched in a real forest, well reproduced by the backdrops prepared to recreate the competition setting familiar to archers.
Strategy and Tactics Evaluations
After about 3 hours, the first shooting session of the first half of the participants ended. Right outside the sports hall, the local Pro-loco organized itself with sandwiches with salami, chips, water and various drinks, to satisfy the appetite of the archers, giving life to the right and expected convivial moment always very welcome, waiting for the partial rankings, spread through the WhatsApp community specifically created to have all the information (times, info, shooting ranges, rankings, etc.) in real time. From the start at 13.30 pm of the second round of the afternoon session, always in "Two Shot" mode, just over 3 hours passed to finish all the volleys, carefully followed also by the archers who were competing in the morning; the entire competition of the day went smoothly and according to plan. The partial rankings, published promptly, have triggered evaluations on strategies and tactics to adopt to ensure both individual and team podiums (in which the corrective coefficients for Class and Category are applied), obviously taking into due account the possible outcomes of the 2 “One Shot” rounds on Sunday, potentially decisive, due to the greater difficulty implied by a single shot which prevents corrections and adjustments of the shot.
Final results
In short, tension at a thousand deriving from the regulatory formula, only partly comparable to the shoot-off initially hypothesized for the competition: the 18 arrows of Sunday, whose scores were added to those of Saturday, could in fact substantially change the final results, for better or for worse. And certainly the fact that in the 2 "One Shot" rounds the homogeneity by Class and Category in the composition of the starting positions, determined by the rankings on Saturday, had a strong impact, putting the archers who performed best in direct comparison and competing. At 8.30 on Sunday the first of the 2 shooting sessions scheduled for the day started: obviously much faster rounds despite the archers having used almost all of the 40 seconds available to ensure the best possible outcome. The first final rankings were therefore quickly outlined: already at 14.00 pm the first results allowed the podiums to be assigned for the Categories of the first round and at 15 pm the definitive results for the remaining archers. As expected, there were some surprises when comparing the scores and virtual podiums on Saturday with the final ones: some went down and some went up. And obviously the comments and considerations on the results kept all the archers busy while waiting for the awards ceremony. The competition field was quickly dismantled and the podiums were set up in record time, in order to conclude the ceremony at times compatible with the return of many archers who had come from far away: the awards ceremony opened with the Mameli Anthem and the necessary thanks to all those who contributed to the preparation, creation and running of the event.
Three-dimensional silhouettes
Cups and certificates for the first 3 classified teams, medals and certificates for the winners of the various Categories, an appropriate gift for the youngest prize winners, the delivery of an award to the two "poachers" who have totaled the highest number of "protected" hit. The absolute premiere of the Italian Indoor Championship on three-dimensional Fidasc silhouettes has therefore been positively archived, we now expect to receive from the various ASDs the candidacy for the organization of species competitions (obviously in the reduced formula of one day and possibly Outdoor) throughout the national territory for 2025. The National Disciplinary Commission is working to definitively improve the reference Regulation of the specialty, making use of the experience gained on the occasion, to publish it together with all the other sports and administrative Regulations. Concluding with renewed and dutiful compliments and thanks to the ASD Arcieri Lupi del Nord and Arcieri delle Groane and also to all the participants who wanted to be present at this first national, we wish good arrows in the (now few) regional competitions scheduled for 2024 and a see you in 2025 (source: FIDASC).
