Hunting & Art - I have known Giulio for many years now, I met him for the first time at a mountain fair, I don't remember if in Longarone or Riva del Garda, then I had the burden and the honor of working and writing for Diana, I was immediately struck by this boy who appeared eclectic and out of the traditional canons, hunting suit, painter's hat and palette in hand, like a good mountaineer, sure of himself and proud of his works. After a few minutes a feeling had already been created that only hunters can establish, we speak the same language, that of game and hunting in its best sense, without detracting from his work, I was immediately fascinated by the character . We talked for a long time about each other's hunting experiences and about his other great passion, fly fishing, he made the lures by himself, studying and observing the life that revolves around the waterways. That year I had just returned from the Romanian Carpathians, for the hunt for the Cedrone to the song, where I had experienced a series of incomparable emotions, therefore my first purchase was a Rooster reproduced on slate, that black background reminded me of the approach before the first light of dawn, when everything around is dark and you cannot distinguish the shape of the rooster placed on the tree a few meters from you, but you feel the typical "knock knock" that confirms its presence, a particular type of support and of strong impact.
This year I saw him again at the Vicenza fair, accompanied and assisted as always by his Serena, wife and mother of their two children Alice and Thomas, after the necessary mutual reports of the last hunting season, we talked a little about his work, painting and hunting now take him full time. The two moments merge and this allows him, with his paintings, to convey emotions, enhancing those small details that only the expert hunter can grasp, if we observe his animals we can see them alive, the roe deer will observe us with a frightened eye. or intrigued depending on the occasion, the chamois that runs with the ruffled bart will unequivocally be the November one, and so on for all the animals of the mountain, from the deer to the roaring to the black grouse competing for the females in a terrible duel. Dogs and in particular the setters, together with the woodcock, are a great passion of our artist, in his exhibitions there is never a lack of steadfastness and approval, set in those tall woods that have always been his home, even here the expression and attitude of the auxiliary faithful makes us understand the great experience and infinite passion for this form of hunting.
The chosen technique, acrylic painting, makes the works come alive, with the colors of nature that try, and sometimes succeed, to get out of the canvas. The result of years of study and research for compatibility with reality, with this technique it is able to express all the rawness and truthfulness of nature. It works with very delicate glazes without materiality or layers of color, the shapes stand out perfectly from the shadows, lights and volumes: it is a solving color that applied with simplicity, naturalness and balance returns what Giulio intends to express. As always, his works are displayed with appropriate frames that enhance the message that the painting wants to express, never too imposing but always well balanced. Giulio, hunter, painter and mountaineer, always takes care of the background which is nothing more than the landscape in which he was born, lives and hunts, while keeping the animal subject at the center of attention, the setting is always appropriate and reveals the great passion and knowledge of the mountains and the habitats frequented by game.
The work of Julius Pocket it is extremely realistic and never banal, it always proposes scenes from the lived life of the game, never static, with the dynamism that emerges from its paintings, the animals are always reproduced in the topical moments of their life, the roar of the deer, the grouse in song, chamois males chasing each other in the snow, woodcock whisking and so on. Placing the house in a painting by Giulio Tasca is like opening a window on the world of hunting and nature.
