The Promoting Committee of the Referendum “against” hunting in Piedmont asks the candidates for Mayor of Asti for their opinion on both the referendum and the legislative initiative underway at the Third Commission.
Piero Belletti and Roberto Piana of the Promoting Committee of the Regional Referendum "against" hunting in Piedmont with a letter sent to the candidates for Mayor of Asti, for the next administrative elections, ask for their opinion on both the referendum affair and the legislative initiative in progress at the Third Commission "warning them", moreover, that their response will be made public so that voting citizens can carefully consider their electoral choice also in consideration of the thought for or against the hunt of the candidate eventually chosen.
The text of the letter reads: "This promoting committee collected over 1987 signatures in 60.000 asking for a regional referendum aimed at limiting hunting activities in our region. For 25 years the Region has illegally prevented the carrying out of the referendum and at the same time has, over the years, increasingly expanded the hunting activity.
The President of the Region, Roberto Cota, refused to implement the sentence of the Court of Appeal of Turin n. 1896 of 17/12/2010 to the point that, at the request of this Committee, the TAR ordered him on 9/02/2012 to comply with the provisions of the Civil Judge and to fix the date of the Referendum.
For 25 years in this region, democracy has been suspended and the rights of citizens violated. As if this were not enough, the III Council Commission in recent weeks has examined and approved in drafting many articles of law aimed at further expanding the possibilities of hunting in our Region, supporting the hunting frenzy of the councilor Sacchetto.
Over 90% of Piedmontese citizens are opposed to hunting or at least in favor of containing its effects. Hunters represent only 0,6% of the population in Piedmont. In 1990 in 4 Po regions (Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli) the national referendum against hunting reached a quorum of 50% and the SI were over 90%. The Po Valley is certainly not conducive to hunting.
This Promoting Committee is monitoring the behaviors that the candidates for mayor of Asti are assuming (or not assuming). We therefore ask you to let us know, in summary form, your thoughts on both the referendum affair and the legislative initiative underway at the Third Commission.
From the next few weeks, this Promoting Committee will make public, with all possible means of information, your decisions (or not decisions) on the issues, above all those of a democratic nature, raised by the regional referendum against hunting so that the citizens who are voters of the city of Asti can evaluate whether or not to entrust their vote to you in the next elections".
