Hunting: Bergamo, the Provincial Hunting Wildlife Plan has been denounced to the European Commission by animal rights MEP Zanoni, "Plant completely upset".
The animal rights MEP, Andrea Zanoni, vice president of the Intergroup for the Welfare and Conservation of Animals in the European Parliament, denounced the Wildlife Hunting Plan of the Province of Bergamo to the European Commission as it would violate directives 92/43 / EEC and 2009 / 147 / EC. The New Provincial Wildlife Hunting Plan was adopted on 10 July 2013 with the resolution of the Provincial Council n.79; following the appeal won by the WWF, the plan had then undergone some changes including the establishment of protection oases along the migration routes characterized by extended borders and the total ban on hunting in the same to avoid disturbing migratory birds. According to Zanoni, the Provincial Council of Bergamo subsequently eliminated these latest changes "bringing it back to a state of sharp contrast with European directives". The animal rights MEP explained that “The modification made to the plan by the Provincial Council completely distorts the result of the first impact assessment following the sentences obtained by WWF Italy which had challenged the previous plans. In this way the Province of Bergamo returns to hunting illegality which could cost the Lombardy Region a European infringement procedure ”.
Finally Zanoni concludes by stating, "Given the repeated warnings from Brussels to Lombardy regarding hunting and compliance with the Birds Directive, I considered it appropriate to personally notify the European Commission of the serious damage that the planning in question could entail hunting avifauna, heritage unavailable by the State and subject to the protection of EU legislation, so that checks on the existence of violations of EU law are launched as soon as possible ".
