Yesterday, Thursday 19 July 2012, the Regional Fauna Committee convened by the Councilor for the Environment, Giorgio Oppi, met to make some changes to the Hunting Calendar of the Sardinia Region relating to the 2012-2013 hunting season; among the novelties the general opening of the hunting season scheduled for 30 September 2012.
The pre-opening days for the turtledove remain fixed for 2 and 6 September at the post office and without the use of the dog for the whole day.
As for the Sardinian partridge and Sardinian hare species, the hunting period was halved on September 30, 7 and 14, October 2012, even in wandering form and with the use of the dog until 14 pm instead of for the entire day as previously planned.
On the other hand, the hunting period for the wild rabbit has been increased, which is now scheduled from 30 September to 30 December 2012.
The same hunting period from 30 September to 30 December 2012 is also foreseen for the Merlo, Allodola, Tortora and Quaglia species.
Fox hunting can instead be exercised in the period from 30 September to 31 January 2013.
The woodpecker hunt has been brought forward to 30 September, compared to the previous calendar, until 20 January 2013.
The remaining migratory birdlife, with the exclusion of the common tufted duck, eliminated from huntable species, can be hunted from 30 September to 31 January 2013, thus expanding the previous period.
Finally, the hunting period for wild boar has been changed, which will begin on November 1st and end on January 31st 2013 on Sundays and midweek holidays, for a total of 16 days; therefore reduced the hunting period for this species and above all eliminated the Thursday hunting day previously inserted but not well received by the hunters themselves.
Furthermore, the Regional Fauna Committee has approved the extension of the hunt until 10 February 2013, in particular on the days of 3, 7 and 10, to be carried out at the post office and without the use of the dog for the Crow, Jay and Wood Pigeon species.
The commissioner Oppi had decided to convene the Regional Fauna Committee again in order to adhere to some requests for changes coming from both the Sardinian Hunting World and some administrations of local authorities concerning above all the hunting of partridge, hare and wild boar.
Despite the good will shown by the regional administration, the environmentalists still say they are dissatisfied and equally threaten to resort to the TAR as, in their opinion, there are still irregularities.
In fact, the Wwf Sardinia gave its opinion on the issue, commenting on the changes made to the Hunting Calendar, “It was a backtrack after the prescriptions arrived from Ispra”; the points unwelcome to environmentalists would concern the possibility of hunting migratory birds for the entire month of January.
