Last week the new Sardinian Hunting Calendar was approved for the 2012-2013 Hunting Season but the environmental protests were immediate; now the environmental associations ENPA, WWF, Amici della Terra, the Legal Intervention Group (GRIG), LIPU and LAC are requesting the intervention of ISPRA, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, so that they can pronounce an unfavorable binding opinion on the new management document. The environmental associations also wanted to involve the European Commission and the Ministry of the Environment and the Regional Department of the Environment in the matter.
One of the critical points contested by environmentalists would be the absence of the precautionary principle for those species that are part of the noble sedentary game considered at risk such as partridge and Sardinian hare for which any faunal censuses or documents have not been taken into account. of wildlife planning.
Another issue raised is that of hunting periods, in particular those concerning the woodcock, turdidae, coot and mallard, teal and codon species which according to environmental associations would be "much wider than what is required by the EU guide on the subject".
Finally, the associations complain that up to now "no environmental impact assessment has been carried out with regard to hunting in areas classified as sites of community importance (Sic) and / or special protection areas (Zps)".
To conclude, environmentalists have not escaped a certain disagreement recorded on the new hunting calendar also by hunters and a significant part of the Sardinian hunting world, therefore they affirm "It should be emphasized that many realities of the island hunting world have recognized the madness of this calendar ".
