2012-2013 Hunting Calendar: Pisa, the first Tuscan Province to approve the new Calendar, with a new resolution incorporates the changes of the Region and ISPRA.
The Province of Pisa, the first in Tuscany, approved with the council resolution no. 132 of 27 June the new provincial hunting calendar, containing the indications about the hunting times on the different species that the Regional Law 20/2002 delegates to the Provinces, is the result of the work carried out with all the associations present in the Provincial Faunal-Hunting Council.
On 29 June, the Region introduced important changes to the aforementioned rule, among other things eliminating wild boar hunting from the Regional Calendar and profoundly modifying the procedures for the approval of hunting times for selection of deer and mouflon.
"From the amendment of the Regional Law 20/2002, which took place without consultation procedure - explains the councilor for wildlife defense Giacomo Sanavio - a complex and difficult process began for all the Tuscan Provinces, which found themselves unable to regulate such types of hunting. The Province of Pisa together with the Upi Toscana has requested urgent indications from the Region in order to fill the regulatory gaps that concern, among other things, the species that cause the greatest damage to agriculture ”.
On 19 July, the Region sent the Ispra opinion on selective hunting to the provinces, which contains hunting times that are very different from traditional ones. In the session of 25 July, the provincial council therefore had to modify the already approved 2012-2013 Hunting Calendar, inserting the changes dictated by the Region and Ispra.
In a nutshell, here are the changes: the roe deer hunt will start on August 1st for the young, on August 15th for the males and females can be taken only in the winter period. Also for fallow deer and red deer, the killing of females will be allowed only in winter, while males will have different periods according to age starting from 1 August (fallow deer) and 11 August (deer). The mouflon will be knocked down only between November and February. In extremis, on the basis of a specific opinion from Ispra, the possibility of carrying out selection hunting for five days a week was saved, while hunting in the snow disappeared.
The Calendar contains another important news on the pre-opening, which this year, having heard the opinions of the associations present in the Council, will be requested only for the 1st of September and with the exclusion of the garganey. The general opening of the hunt will be on September 16th and the general closure on January 31st, although the selective collection can continue until mid-March.
Wild boar hunting, in the absence of regional regulatory references, was compulsorily brought back within the time frame provided for by state law, starting on November 1st and ending on January 31st.
