The regional council's approach to approving the hunting calendar has been corrected. The TAR Marches, with a sentence dated February 15, ruled on two appeals presented by the environmentalist/Animalist Associations (WWF-LIPU-LAC-LAV) and by the Italian Hunting Federation against the 2022-2023 hunting calendar approved by the Marche Region. "In the light of the indications given in today's ruling - explains the councilor for hunting Andrea Maria Antonini - I can assure you that we will be able to present the 2023-2024 hunting calendar proposal in the coming days to arrive at final approval within the next month of April and not late as happened in the past. A very important result constantly desired by all hunting associations. The commitment of the regional administration to constantly monitor the situation and, at the same time, to collect data on wildlife is also confirmed. All with the hope of always making use of the full collaboration of the hunting world, as an essential and precious support in the formulation of the calendar, taking into account local traditions and the characteristics of our environment". The sentence that follows a very complex story, even if it has just finished the hunting season, represents not only an important and useful tool to evaluate the choices made by the Body, but also to provide guidelines for drawing up the next hunting calendar.
Going into the technical details, the Judgment, not accepting the following reasons for the appeals, establishes:
1- that the withdrawal of the Fighter was legitimate, since there were no profiles from which a violation of the rules and principles that govern the matter emerges "ictu oculi";
2) that the pre-opening and general opening dates of the hunting identified by the Region were correct as the Region provided a specific reason for each of the aforementioned species, which the appellant associations did not refute, except by referring to ISPRA's findings;
3) that the closure dates for hunting for Woodcock, Turdids and aquatic birds are adequate with respect to what is indicated by the Key Concepts, resulting in the fact that the Region, for each species, has given specific reasons which are also based on other data in its possession.
4) that the use of the App for monitoring the sampling of the derogating species, and in particular of the turtle dove, is certainly functional and respectful of the purposes of verifying the killings in real time.
It should be noted, however, that the only aspect of the appeal that is accepted is that relating to the additional days of stalking in the months of October and November, given the complaint made by ISPRA on the unavailability of data to evaluate the impact of this levy. The critical issue, raised for the first time this year, has already been addressed by the offices with the processing of the requested data from the hunting cards. Therefore the ruling does not cause concern for the next few years. In the final analysis, although in the light of the Key Concepts revision, unfortunately it was forced to adopt limitations on sampling in the past Hunting Calendar compared to the past, the sentence comforts the choices identified in the awareness of having operated correctly (source: Marche Region).
