The Molise Region has approved the new Hunting Calendar valid for the 2012-2013 hunting season: the text of the document was officially published in the BURM, Official Bulletin of the Molise Region, of 16 August 2012.
According to the new Hunting Calendar, a pre-opening period of hunting is foreseen for the days 1, 2 and 9 September 2012, with modalities from temporary stalking until and no later than 13.00 pm for the species Tortora, Merlo, Jay, Gazza and Cornacchia Grigia.
For the Tortora and Merlo species, a maximum daily collection of eight animals is envisaged (sum of the individual animals of the two species) for a total of 24 animals for the entire pre-opening period; no limitation is foreseen for the collection of the other species, Jay, Magpie and Cornacchia Grigia.
The official opening of the hunting season is scheduled for next September 16th and will end on January 31st 2013; in this period the hunting activity can be exercised three days a week at the hunter's choice, with the exception of Tuesdays and Fridays.
In January, Molise hunters will also be able to practice hunting within the Special Protection Areas (Zps), even if they fall within agri-tourism hunting and wildlife-hunting companies, only on Wednesdays and Sundays.
During the opening period, the following species will be hunted:
a) from 16 September to 31 December 2012: teal, gadwall, pintail, pheasant, common hare, blackbird, quail, dove.
b) from 16 September 2012 to 16 January 2013: cesena, song thrush, redwing thrush, fox;
c) from 16 September 2012 to 31 January 2013: snipe, wood pigeon, hooded crow, coot, magpie, jay, wigeon, whisk, moorhen, mallard, gargane, shoveler, pochard, lapwing, water rail;
d) from 1 October to 29 November 2012: partridge;
e) from 1 October to 31 December 2012: lark;
f) from 1 October 2012 to 16 January 2013: woodcock;
g) from 14 October 2012 to 16 January 2013: wild boar;
h) from 14 October 2012 to 16 January 2013, wild boar hunting is allowed in the hunting farms;
i) from 14 October 2012 to 25 November 2012 it is allowed to hunt roe deer, fallow deer and red deer in the hunting farms.
The provisions of the Hunting Calendar also apply to the hunting activity carried out in the areas contiguous to the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise and within the Wildlife Hunting Companies.
As regards the limits of the game bag, each hunter can shoot a maximum of two head of sedentary game and a maximum of one head for the hare, partridge and wild boar species; for migratory game, on the other hand, the maximum daily limit is 20 total heads with the exception of some species such as Skylark for which a maximum of 10 heads is expected, the species Quail, Tortora, Merlo, Codone and Lapwing for which a maximum of 5 animals, the Woodcock species for which a maximum of 3 animals is foreseen.
Wild boar hunting in the Molise area is scheduled on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and the use of high visibility safety clothing is mandatory. Finally, according to the new Hunting Calendar of the Molise Region, dog training is allowed as early as August 21 and until September 13, 2012 for those enrolled in the Territorial Hunting Area with a ban on protected areas and land under cultivation.
